Recently, we sent some K-cup samples to a customer in Vietnam. After the customer received it, he asked how to test the bottom. We showed him the correct process of piercing the bottom by video.
Next, we will introduce how to correctly pierce the bottom of the K-cup. You can also refer to this article to test it yourself if interested.
First, randomly select several samples of K-cup and put them in the original Keurig coffee machine.
Here we need to pay attention to a few points:
After putting the cup into the coffee machine, don't close it very quickly, but apply a little force to let it drop slowly. When it is about to break the cup, pause for a while, and then slowly apply a little force to close it.

This operation is needed because if the speed of pressing the machine is too fast, it will produce a certain impact force, and the cup is easier to puncture. However, if the speed is relatively slow, or even similar to that of the elderly using the machine, the extreme environment of the punctured bottom of the cup can be tested to the maximum extent to confirm whether the quality and function of the cup are excellent.
Here is this situation of the most extreme state of the cup: If the hole punctured at this time is of normal size, there is no crack, and there is no situation that it cannot be punctured; it is a qualified cup.
Suppose the bottom is cracked, like in the picture. That's not a perfect cup, but it still can work.
If the bottom can't be punctured, that's not a good quality cup and need to be discussed more.
If you turn off the coffee machine directly and quickly, the cup will be easily poked open, and the accuracy of this test is not enough.

Usually, each time the testing, we will finish about 100 pcs kcups testing randomly. And after the bottom testing, there are still some other ways to check and test the kcups to ensure they have good quality.
1, Using the light to check the cup's material thickness
We can use light to illuminate the inside of the cup and observe the material uniformity of the cup wall. And whether there is a grain at the bottom of the cup and the difference between the light transmittance of the cup wall can show the difference in the thickness of the cup.
2, Use the knife and ruler to check the cup's thickness
We can cut the cup with a knife, observe the thickness of three different areas, and sort and compare to confirm the uniformity of the cup.
3, Using the machine to test the vacuum selah performance
There is a professional instrument called a vacuum sealing performance tester. After filling the instrument with water, drop it into the kcup sealed with film, and then start the machine for the sealing test. If there is no water leakage inside the kcup, the cup sealing performance is good, and the film sealing is very successful and firm.
Sealing is an important standard to test whether the quality of kcup is good because coffee needs to be isolated from oxygen and water to protect the aroma and flavor of coffee inside.
Hope these testing ways' introduction can help you know more about how to test and check a good quality kcup.
